Two films explore the life, work, and ideas of the Japanese composer Ryuichi Sakamoto, who has had a major influence on contemporary music.
Ryuichi Sakamoto: Coda and Ryuichi Sakamoto: async Live at the Park Avenue Armory are two documentaries by Stephen Nomura Schible. The first is a portrait of Sakamoto shot over a period of five years, in which the Japanese composer speaks about music, the fragility of our world, and his battle with cancer since 2014. The second is a recording of Sakamoto’s concert at the Veterans Room of Park Avenue Armory in New York featuring compositions from async, the album he recorded after his recovery. Ryuichi Sakamoto: async Live at the Park Avenue Armory will be screened in Russia for the first time.
