A farewell love letter to the iconic Parisian concept store.
«Many people went to Colette before they went to the Eiffel Tower when they came to Paris, ” says Kanye West, and he is not exaggerating. In the 20 years of its existence, the legendary concept store, which closed three years ago, not only transformed our idea of fashion retail but also became a key destination in the world’s fashion capital.
In 1997, the idea that clothes, design objects, art, and food could coexist in the same space seemed incredible and many expected that Colette would not last long. Soon, however, it became clear that the store’s founders Colette Roussaux and her daughter Sarah Andelman were ahead of their time. Shop windows featuring jewelry intermingled with two-euro lighters, a mix of luxury brands and up-and-coming designers (for whom it almost always meant the promise of a bright future), and limited collections in collaboration with established fashion houses and celebrities, which attracted queues before the store’s opening were all invented at Colette, perhaps, the most important store of the century. Friends and fans featured in the film include Kanye West, musician Pharrell Williams, artist Kaws, creative director of menswear at Louis Vuitton Virgil Abloh, and others.
The film will be screened in English, French, and Japanese with Russian subtitles.
