DESCRIPTION

From 14 to 16 September 2017 Garage Museum of Contemporary Art will be running the annual training course Experiencing the Museum

Experiencing the Museum is a training program aimed at educators interested in professional communication with people with disabilities. In 2015 and 2016, the course focused on deaf-blind, deaf, and hard of hearing visitors. This year, it is dedicated to communication and collaboration with visitors with developmental and learning disabilities.

The three-day program will be stimulating for museum and cultural institutions workers, as well as specialists from the social sector. Experiencing the Museum’s practical training, delivered by European and American experts, is aimed at acquiring new knowledge and nurturing previously developed skills. Some of this year’s themes include adaptation of data for visitors with developmental and learning disabilities, audio description of works, and communication with deaf and hard of hearing workers of organizations.

Lectures, discussions, and round tables within the course program involve workers from Russian cultural centers, charity organizations, as well as people with disabilities, who will discuss the current condition of the barrier-free (inclusive) environment in the country.
