The Lantern one-day book fair will take place at Garage, organized in support of the Shalash charitable foundation.
The program of the fair at Garage is designed around questions that are important to the Museum. What knowledge is necessary now? How can educational projects work to support different communities? What formats can be equally useful in school and in a museum? The interest in these questions is reflected in the theme of the fair, ProSvet (Ray of Light).
The fair will focus on the activities of the Shaslash charitable foundation. The foundation works on the issue of difficult behavior in Russia. It offers free sessions for children and teens, gives teachers and parents tried and tested tools, helps to prevent serious negative consequences, and deals with difficult behavior by children in the early stages with the help of study and social skills.
The fair will include major publishers of children’s and adult literature (Ad Marginem, Samokat, Soyapress, and others), small edition book projects, and authors of independent zines. There will also be books received as the result of a charitable collection.
In the Atrium there is a leisure area that has been transformed into a space for the public program. Events will include a presentation of the translation of Jacques Rancière’s book The Ignorant Schoolmaster, a discussion with staff from Shalash about safe spaces during lessons, and a meeting with representatives of contemporary media to talk about promoting science and art. Fair visitors can also take part in a tour of the Rare and Fragile Books Collection in Garage Library.
The 0+ Reading Space is open to young visitors and will offer masterclasses and meetings with authors and illustrators of children’s books and comics throughout the day. Here, visitors with children will have the opportunity to use the updated Garage app I’m Going to the Museum, which helps make a museum visit more predictable and comfortable.
You can make a donation to Shalash using the QR codes within the Museum space.
