“Ceramics in Contemporary Art”. A lecture by Ekaterina Savchenko

Date

Schedule

19:30–20:30

Place

Garage Lounge Zone at UNIQLO Atrium

DESCRIPTION

As part of Garage’s partner program with the clothing brand UNIQLO, the Museum’s Exhibition Projects manager Ekaterina Savchenko will read a lecture on the role of ceramics in contemporary art, design, and fashion.

One of the oldest materials implemented by humans for creative purposes, clay objects were initially made for household needs. Today, however, ceramics has gone far beyond functionality, turning into a space for experimentation and a fully-fledged means of expressing one’s artistic statement within the discourse of contemporary art. It is also a popular hobby and even an authentic direction in art therapy. Ekaterina Savchenko will demonstrate how contemporary artists and designers approach this material, coming up with the most diverse forms of its implementation—from ceramic books to “clay” DJ sets.
