But Lot’s Wife Looked Back. Evidence, Document, and Affect in the Context of Research Methodology: A Meeting with Hanna Zubkova

Date

Schedule

19:30–21:00

Place

Garage Auditorium

DESCRIPTION

Hanna Zubkova proposes looking into possible means of (non)speaking about the experience of the witness that are key to her understanding of the archive as an artistic and historical phenomenon.

«At least two subjects are involved in evidence: the person who can only talk about what did not happen to them and the person who ‘looked into the Gorgon’s eyes, ’ but can no longer speak, ” says the artist.

Hanna lives and works in three contexts: Belarus, Russia, and France. The unfixed nature of historical reality makes her optics variable and free of categoricalness, producing an acute sensitiveness, and the ability to embody her observations in a range of media allows her to look at artistic research something fruitful.

Hanna will also talk about her project False Sun. The Hunter, which is on view at Garage, the main points of artistic research, the role of chance in working with documents, and the internal ethics of an artist who works with complex heritage in an attempt to split apart the big Truth of historical narratives and the personal truths of its participants.
