A lecture by Sasha Obukhova: Vadim Zakharov. Postscript after RIP: A Video Archive of Moscow Artists’ Exhibitions (1989–2014) for GARAGE cardholders

22 October 2015

Sasha Obukhova, the organizer of POSTCRIPT AFTER RIP, will tell GARAGE card holders about the project and describe the making of the visual archive of the contemporary art era.

Vadim Zakharov’s video archive, formed over the last 25 years, offers a unique overview of Moscow artists’ activity. It includes documentation of over 230 solo and group exhibitions, which took place in Russia and abroad from 1989 to 2014. The exhibition contains videos of some seminal exhibitions, as well as of the lesser-known but nevertheless important episodes in the history of Russian contemporary art.

Sasha Obukhova is an art historian and Head of the Research Department at Garage Museum of Contemporary Art. She graduated from the Moscow State University in 1992. In 1993 she studied at the Central European University (Prague). She has worked at the Institute of Contemporary Art (Russia), The State Tretyakov Gallery, and the National Centre for Contemporary Art. In 2000 she took part in the preparation of The Art of the Second Half of the XX Century — the permanent exhibition at the Tretyakov Gallery. In 2004 she became a founding member and director of the Art Projects Fund where she established ACRA (the Archive of Contemporary Russian Art). She is a member of the Advisory Board of the Kandinsky Prize.
