DESCRIPTION

Garage launches a course on the basics of working with people with migrant backgrounds and the experience of forced migration.

In 2019, Garage Museum of Contemporary Art started a new direction dedicated to working with people with migrant backgrounds which has its own public program, adapts exhibition projects, and puts a lot of effort into the engagement of the professional museum community.

The program’s next step following the conference Experiencing the Museum: People with Migrant Backgrounds will be the launch of a course on the basics of working with people with migrant backgrounds and the experience of forced migration.

Addressed to budding specialists interested in the professional growth in this field, the course runs for several months, during which the audience will learn the legal, psychological, and sociocultural aspects of the work with people who have migrant backgrounds. Along with theory, the program allows participants to acquire practical knowledge, with its final block to be held at Russian and international organizations dealing with migration, integration centers, and Moscow museums.

The course is developed in collaboration with the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and and the integration center Kids Are Kids.
