This series includes the introductory overview lecture A Brief History of John Baldessari, as told by Daria Pyrkina and public talks with Russian artists moderated by Pyrkina.

Russian artists of different generations, both internationally renowned and emerging, take part in a series of public talks, during which visitors are encouraged to compare their works to those of Baldessari. The traditions of Moscow Conceptualism and American Conceptualism will create a will create a starting point for discussions, with a special focus on the influence that the Californian master has exerted on the strategies of his younger Russian counterparts.

ABOUT THE PARTICIPANTS

Daria Pyrkina is an art historian, curator, art critic, and teacher of the history of contemporary art and curatorship. She initiated and curated the First Moscow International Biennale for Young Art "Qui Vive?," and has published over 70 articles on the art of the 20th and early 21st centuries. Her thesis was on the art and politics of post-Franco Spain.
