DESCRIPTION

Garage is launching the course Zine Making Techniques for participants aged 16+.

Zines are unique printed publications released in small editions and often produced by hand by artists, photographers, and writers. This course will introduce participants to five techniques useful in the making of zines—cardboard engraving, drypoint, punk collage, Risograph printing, and linocut—and several zine binding techniques. In each class, participants will make a double page spread for their zine and bind them together in the last class.

Classes will take place in the Atrium, once a week.

About the Course Methodologists

Vitaly Sidorov

A senior librarian at Garage and curator of the collection of contemporary artist’s book and zines.

Varvara Yakovleva

An education projects manager and inclusive projects coordinator at Garage and a coordinator at Art Focus Now, an online publication about contemporary art.

About the teachers

Natasha Markina

An artist and founder of the research project Tsekh Knigi. She works with natural materials, experiments book formats, and makes book-theaters with mechanisms.

Aleksandra Prokopova

An artist, collage maker, and member of the Russian collage-makers’ community Rezh da Kley. In 2019 she founded the art group Shum with Nadezhda Lisovskaya. She works with graphics, collage and art objects, and is the author of the telegram channel ALEXBEGEMOT.

Yevgeny Kambulatov

A co-founder of the printing workshop Ferrum Print Lab and the independent small edition publishing project Ferrum Faber. He studied easel graphic art at Moscow State Surikov Academy of Fine Arts. He works with hand printing techniques, including etching, screen printing, and Risograph printing, as well as in design.

Anastasia Dronova

A co-founder of the printing workshop Ferrum Print Lab and the independent small edition publishing project Ferrum Faber. She studied graphic art at Moscow State Surikov Academy of Fine Arts and works in hand printing.

Mark Ber

A co-founder of the printing workshop Ferrum Print Lab and the independent small edition publishing project Ferrum Faber. He works in screen printing, etching, Risograph printing, and 3D modeling.

Iya Unova

A photographer, designer and maker of books, and founder of the binding studio Logbook/s//, which produces small edition books, photographic books, diaries, ironic notebooks, and design solutions. She is the author of the Telegram channel Logbook/s//.
