40 Jahrevideokunst.de — teil 1. Digitales Erbe: Videokunst in Deutschland von 1963 Bis Heute
The new standard work on video art in Germany — with excerpts of the most important works on DVD. Video art has become one of the most influential genres of 20th century art. “40 years of video art in Germany from 1963 to today”, an initiative project of the Federal Cultural Foundation, wants to secure this position as part of our cultural heritage. The publication provides a concise overview of all major historical and contemporary trends in video art and presents 59 outstanding individual works that have been produced since the 1960s to 2004 in Germany. It is accompanied by a DVD that shows excerpts from all the works discussed and provides additional material to accompany the artists. In addition, art historians, curators, and philosophers in art historical and theoretical overviews assess current strategies for dealing with moving images, including issues of the presentation, preservation, and restoration of video art.
