Bergen Assembly 2013. Monday Begins on Saturday
On 31 August 2013 “Monday Begins on Saturday”, the first edition of Bergen Assembly, was opened to the public. “Monday Begins on Saturday” takes the form of an international exhibition, publication, and symposium. The exhibition, which will be on view in Bergen from 31 August to 27 October 2013, presents the positions of more than 50 international artists working in a variety of media. Spread over 11 venues in Bergen, the exhibition gathers works that are outcomes of critical-imaginative research into the heightened contradictions and particular injustices of our time. As a contemporary rewriting of the Soviet fantasy novel “Monday Begins on Saturday” by Arkady and Boris Strugatsky, from which its title is derived, the exhibition is conceived as an archipelago of fictitious research institutes that defamiliarize the existing identity and implications of the exhibition’s venues.
