In Autumn 2017 Garage Museum of Contemporary Art launched a support program for cultural institutions in the regions of Russia in order to foster the development of Russian contemporary art.

The first participants of the program are Typography Center for Contemporary Art in Krasnodar and Smena Center of Contemporary Culture in Kazan. Each will receive a grant and take part in a number of events for art professionals—artists and researchers from both regions.

Founded in 2012, Typography Center for Contemporary Art is named after Sovyetskaya Kuban typography, whose former building it occupies. Its activities include education and exhibition projects focused on contemporary art. The center’s premises are home to the exhibition space of Krasnodar Institute of Contemporary Art and RedGift Gallery.

Smena Center of Contemporary Culture opened in 2013 and has become an important cultural hub in Kazan. It consists of a gallery, an lecture hall and a book shop, and hosts exhibitions, lectures, public discussions, film screenings, concerts, book launches and presentations of various public and education projects.
