Artful Resistance: Contemporary Art from Sri Lanka

Exhibition and the accompanying catalogue are the outcome of several years of intensive fieldwork and research into the art worlds of Sri Lanka and their historical, sociopolitical, economic, and cultural background. While based on repeated interviews with about sixty Sri Lankan artists, two video projects recording artistic activities, a substantial image data base, and extended conservations with gallerists, collectors, art teachers, and art consumers, the present show can of necessity only offer insight into a limited segment of the great diversity of present‑day Sri Lankan art.
