Published on the occasion of the exhibition, 46, XX, curated by Oksana Salamatina and debuted in Moscow, before marking the opening of the Salamatina Gallery in New York. Featuring the work of four contemporary female artists: Carole Feuerman, India Evans, Christy Singleton and Lisa Wafe, the exhibition and its accompanying catalogue explore beauty, sexuality and symbolism through the eyes of four American artists. From sculpture in resin, bronze or silicone to mixed‑media collages and painted/sculpted fabric, these works convey a powerful message about the female impulse in Contemporary American art. Dominant are the sensuous, water‑drenched figures of noted sculptor, Carole Feuerman, whose fascination with the female form is allied with a devotion to Realism. Feuerman offers a different anatomical interpretation through her highly organic and tactile layered bronzes, and opens a fresh dialogue with emerging artists India Evans, Christy Singleton and Lisa Wade. Among topics considered visually and through art historical perspectives, are the effects of plastic surgery, the romantic notion of the female nude, and the spiritual journey of a woman's life.
