ShanShui — Both Ways — When art Meets Science
This exhibition premiers the artworks of the Sino/Swiss Residency Exchange. 山水 ShanShui — Both Ways explores the manifold dynamics of the collaborations. The resulting works show the communication potential of artists’ responses to scientific research. Fixed notions of cultural cartography are questioned, and the boundaries of both art/science, and China/ Switzerland, are blurred. Parts of the exhibition are four 12 minutes documentary films which show the process of the artists in the science institutes and do include interviews with the artists and scientists involved. The artworks include photography, video installations, a sound installation, drawings, a multi-media installation and can be adapted according to site-specific requirements. The main research themes addressed by artistic investigations is environmental sciences. Since the artists are still in process of physically producing their artworks this documentation includes work-in-progress and sketches.
