Commissioned for the exhibition After the End of the World and initially produced by CCCB (Barcelona) with FACT+BLUECOAT+RIBA NORTH (Liverpool)

Rimini Protokoll’s immersive installation invites the viewer on a journey through time that may seem so real it will be impossible to forget. In the future, we will encounter creatures that emerged on our planet 670 million years ago and will continue to survive when many other species have vanished from the face of the Earth. The name of the project refers to the win-win principle, which allows both sides in an interaction to benefit from it without the other side losing. But if these amazing ancient creatures are destined to win as a result of human impact on the planet, what guarantees are there that we will survive?

The warming of the ocean, overfishing, and even the increase in the quantity of algae all seem to work in favor of jellyfish, which are already virtually immortal in their polyp stage, when they reproduce through budding. Resulting from a collaboration with marine biologists and environmental activists, Rimini Protokoll’s work changes our understanding of these animals and offers us an opportunity to see ourselves from the outside.
