This book represents the fruits of a process that began with an international seminar “Where the West Ends?”, which was organised in March of 2010 at the Museum of Modern Art in Warsaw by the British art theorist Claire Bishop and Marta Dziewańska. In the autumn of 2011, the Museum organised the project “Auditorium Moscow. A Sketch for Public Space” (Joanna Mytkowska and Ekaterina Degot and David Riff), which provided direct contact with a number of artists who were later invited to organise exhibition in Warsaw (“Angry Birds,” curated by David Ter‑Oganyan, 2012). This book gathers the experiences of this series of events and tries to lend analytical light to socio‑political momentum and emerging critical art in todays Russia.
