Grant Program for Publishers

DESCRIPTION

Garage Museum of Contemporary Art and German Book Office in Moscow announce a joint grant program for publishers. Applications for financial support of book projects that are currently in the process of translation, manuscript editing, layout or prepress can be submitted starting July 15.

Due to the closure of bookshops during the period self-isolation, many publishers were forced to cut print runs and cancel planned titles. Instead of organizing Garage Art Book Fair, which has been postponed to 2021, the Museum decided to help publishers produce new titles by launching a program of targeted grants. Frankfurter Buchmesse in Russia has joined this initiative.

Proposed projects must be able to be implemented within an eight-month period. Applications will be accepted between July 15 and August 31. There is no limit to the number of applications a single publisher can make.

The winners will be announced on September 18, 2020.

CONDITIONS

Garage Museum of Contemporary Art will support, on a competitive basis, applications from publishers for a one-time payment of up to 400,000 rubles for printing (of 1,000 or more copies) and prepress of books on the following themes:

  • contemporary art and culture
  • gender
  • ecology and sustainable development
  • contemporary history
  • science art

Applications are also invited for young adult fiction titles on history, art, coming of age, and gender, and educational books for parents and children covering the same themes.

Frankfurter Buchmesse will support, on a competitive basis, applications from publishers for a one-time payment of up to 150,000 rubles to cover the services of a translator, editor or proofreader or toward the cost of printing or post-publication promotion.

Frankfurter Buchmesse is also prepared to support translations of German books on the following themes:

    • publishing and typography
    • art theory and cultural theory
    • art and culture for a general readership
    • history and memoirs
