The genre developed by Ilya Kabakov and Pepperstein’s father, Viktor Pivovarov, was naturally picked up by Pepperstein, who, as a child imitating the adults around him, started making conceptualist albums almost at the same time as Pivovarov and Kabakov. The albums are intended for intimate study within a circle of friends and contain both images and text, the relationship between which can create meaning and also reveal its absence by underscoring the discontinuity between different realities. This space features two complete early albums. More albums can be found in the part of the exhibition devoted to Pepperstein’s childhood works.
