The Misandrists

Director Bruce LaBruce. Germany, 2017. 91 minutes.

Agent provocateur of contemporary cinema, Bruce LaBruce has been breaking all kinds of rules to produce radical commentary on various aspects of contemporary culture, such as the rise in violence, issues faced by sexual minorities, gender clichés, and the representation of gender in culture. LaBruce’s films disguise political satire as low budget queer cinema abounding in fetishes and deviations. His characters include a variety of radicals and fanatics, but whatever violence they bring with them is ultimately vanquished by the revolutionary ardor of love and liberation.
