Sasha Obukhova

This lecture is about the School of Moscow Conceptualism, an artistic movement involving, in particular, Ilya Kabakov, the group of the Collective Action, Rimma and Valeriy Gerlovins, and Dmitry Prigov. The artists considered the idea, or concept, of an artistic work to be of more importance than its form or physical expression, while the purpose of art was to express ideas or relationships between the ideas. In the seventh lecture of her course, Sasha Obukhova will discuss the ways in which Soviet conceptualists were close to their western counterparts, as well as what makes the Russian version of this global movement special.
