“Kojima the Philosopher: The Evolution of ideas from the very first game to Death Stranding”

Soon after the release of Death Stranding, a new, intriguing, and apparently metaphysical, video game by Hideo Kojima, Alexander Vetushinsky will discuss the philosophical challenges Kojima addresses in his work and his unique methods of responding to them.

Hideo Kojima is more than just a game designer whose creations entertain the audience. He is a rare example of a thinker who uses video games instead of books for making philosophical statements.

Alexander Vetushinsky

A philosopher and expert in the history and theory of video games. He graduated in Philosophy from Moscow State University (2013), where he was also awarded a Candidate of Philosophical Sciences degree (2016). He is a junior research associate in the Department of Ontology and Cognition Theory of the Philosophy Faculty at Moscow State University. As well as teaching philosophy, Vetushinsky works at the Moscow Game Center. He also reads lecture courses on the history and theory of video games at the Higher School of Economics (Game Design program) and at B&D (Digital Design program).
