DESCRIPTION

Introduction to Street Art: Roots, Movements, Key Figures lecture by Sabina Chagina will take place before the screening of Faces Places as part of Garage’s program with Beat Film Festival.

The lecture looks at the development of street art over the last half-a-century: from the beginnings of graffiti culture in New York and Mexican muralism to contemporary street art and public art. Sabina Chagina will discuss some of the key artists, including Jean-Michel Basquiat, Keith Haring, Os Gemeos, and Banksy, and explain some terms relating to the art form. She will also offer an overview of the Russian street art scene based on her work at Artmossphere—the creative group behind the only Russian Biennale of street art and a number of other major projects.
