DESCRIPTION

As the Royal Academy of Arts embarks on its 250th year, Tim Marlow discusses the highlights and challenges of working in this illustrious, artist-led institution in the twenty-first century.

In his lecture Tim Marlow will explore how the art institution engages with audiences in a global setting—using such locations as London and Hong Kong based on the Royal Academy of Arts’ experience—by exhibiting such established artists as Ai Weiwei and Tracey Emin and emerging artists at the Summer Exhibition, the world’s longest running and largest open-submission show.

The Royal Academy of Arts, one of the most influential cultural associations in Britain, was founded in 1768. Its members and graduates form the world art scene. Nowadays Royal Academicians include artist David Hockney, architect Sir David Adjaye, and artist Tracey Emin among others. A school for contemporary fine art has offered up to seventeen artists an opportunity to participate in a free of charge three-year program annually since the foundation of the Royal Academy of Arts.
