Guardians of Time. Book restoration lab

DESCRIPTION

Restoring books is a challenging and time-consuming task, and any restorer must be aware of many nuances: from the texture and the quality of paper to the binding technique.

Moscow Kremlin Museums restorer Nadezhda Maslennikova will tell visitors about the emergence of the first hand-written and printed books, the materials that were used in the making of book covers and ink, and where the first Moscow Print Yard was located. Participants will find out how paper was made in the Middle Ages, learn to read watermarks, and hear about some of the most exciting discoveries made during the restoration of books and manuscripts.
