Garage Museum of Contemporary Art

DESCRIPTION

Blind and partially-sighted visitors will set out on a journey along twenty-first-century “silk roads” and will get acquainted with the artworks of the Belgian conceptualist Marcel Broodthaers. The tour includes exploration of tactile models and audio descriptions of works prepared by the Museum’s experts.

This overview tour will begin with the story behind The Last Resort—an installation created by contemporary artist Anri Sala featuring thirty-eight snare drums suspended from the ceiling in Garage Atrium. At the core of this commission is one of the last pieces created by Mozart which is considered a paradigmatic musical creation of the Enlightenment.

Next, the visitors will be introduced with the international project The Fabric of Felicity dedicated to the role of clothing in modern society outside the context of fashion industry. Built around twenty-first-century “silk roads”, the works on show have been created by over forty artists from across the globe and represent the Soviet avant-garde and the Brazilian underground alongside artists of the new generation.

Finally, the group will tour the exhibition Marcel Broodthaers. Poetry and images—a retrospective that brings together over eighty works created by the artist, including his seminal pieces questioning the mechanisms of cultural institutions, authorship issues, and the legacies of European history. The participants will learn more about today’s key conceptual strategies that were initially introduced by Broodthaers.
