DESCRIPTION

During the specially adapted guided tours, visitors with learning disabilities will be introduced to the categories of kinetic and op art using the material of Latin American and Eastern European art on display at the Museum as their source.

The exhibition The Other Trans-Atlantic. Kinetic and Op Art in Eastern Europe and Latin America 1950s — 1970s has been organized in collaboration with the Museum of Modern Art in Warsaw and encompasses over a hundred artworks.

Political turmoil that hit the world between the 1950s and the 1970s informed the works of kinetic art, which developed in Latin American and Eastern European countries parallel to the dominant artistic movements of the time—abstract expressionism in the U.S. and lyrical abstraction in Europe.

To prepare people with learning disabilities for a visit to a museum within an organized group, Garage’s Inclusive Programs Department has designed a social story.

Throughout the excursion, the group is accompanied by an Inclusive Programs Department educator who can provide assistance and guide a visitor to a quiet room if necessary.

Noise-cancelling earphones are available for loan at the information desk.

Tours around the exhibition conclude with a workshop.
