Film screening. Ryuichi Sakamoto: Coda

DESCRIPTION

Several years in the life of Ryuichi Sakamoto, one of the greatest contemporary composers.

Unlike most documentaries about great people, Stephen Nomura Schible’s film features no childhood photos, interviews with the protagonist’s friends or his own reminiscences about his early career. Instead, we follow Ryuichi Sakamoto listening to the rain in his New York apartment, walking to the forest to record the rustling of leaves, or playing a piano that has survived a tsunami. We listen to Sakamoto speak about the things that are important to him: nature, protection of the environment (he has been an environmental activist since the 1990s), music, and death. Beating throat cancer has changed his outlook on life. And of course, we see him composing and performing his music.
