Description

It is difficult to imagine the life of a modern city without offices. However, what is now referred to as an “office” used to bear the more modest and cozy title “counting room,” immortalized by the writers Ilf and Petrov in their cult novels The Golden Calf and The 12 Chairs. Counting rooms became widespread during the introduction of the New Economic Policy (NEP) in the 1920s, which means that Moscow’s office culture is already 90 years old and counting. How and by whom was the business Moscow of the 1920s built? What masterpieces of 20th-century administrative architecture adorn our city? Find out many interesting and unusual facts about the capital’s office life in “Counting Room 13.”
