Schedule

15:00

Place

Garage Museum of Contemporary Art

DESCRIPTION

A tour of Yin Xiuzhen’s installation Slow Release for primary school-aged children with autism including an art therapy class.

During the tour, young visitors will have a chance to explore the twelve-meter pill-shaped installation that Chinese contemporary artist Yin Xiuzhen has built in Garage Atrium. The pill is made of red and white used clothes donated by Garage visitors.

Kids will learn the story behind the name of the installation and find out why the artist chooses to use clothing items that have been used.

A social story by Garage staff will help prepare for the tour.

The tour will be followed by an art therapy class, where kids can make their own puppets from old clothing and textiles. At the end of the class, the puppets will be animated during an improvised play. During such plays kids with autism have a chance to practice social skills through acting for their characters.
