DESCRIPTION

As Garage continues its work with the professional community aimed at maintaining a dialogue around various inclusiveness-related issues, Yulia Germashova delivers a lecture on the specificity of teaching deaf and hard of hearing kids across the world.

Yulia Germashova has been to over forty countries and visited schools in Europe, Asia, Northern and Southern America, and Australia, to research how deaf children study in different parts of the world.

In her talk, she will outline the entire spectrum of nuances dealing with the education of deaf and hard of hearing kids in various countries and draw parallels with the Russian experience. She will also discuss diverse educational systems and learning methods available to deaf children, as well as their benefits and drawbacks from the perspective of practicing surdopedagogues.

ABOUT THE LECTURER

 

Yulia Germashova is a sign language interpreter, teacher of deaf children, and traveler. She graduated in Surdopedagogy from St. Petersburg’s Herzen State Pedagogical University (2017) and enrolled in the master’s program of the UNESCO department (2019). Since 2015, Yulia has been a specialist working with deaf and hard of hearing primary and secondary school children.
