Description

Garage presents Day. Night. Garage. Architecture.
A new series of guided tours designed especially for A City Outing, a project of the Department of Cultural Heritage, Moscow

Since its founding, Garage Center for Contemporary Culture has been closely connected to architecture. Located in the Bakhmetevsky Bus Garage, Garage owes its name to this monument to 1920s constructivism, designed by Konstantin Melnikov. Now, with Garage’s move to Gorky Park, it has continued to influence architecture in Moscow. Its temporary exhibition pavilion was designed by renowned Japanese architect Shigeru Ban, and the first exhibition held there, in autumn 2012, dealt with the history of temporary architecture inside the park. In 2014, the Vremena Goda (Seasons of the Year) pavilion will become Garage’s new exhibition space. Originally constructed as a restaurant in the 1960s, the building was later abandoned in the 1990s.  It is now part of a major renovation project conceived by Rem Koolhas’ OMA.

Garage is pleased to further announce that it will participate in the project A City Outing, pioneered by the Department of Cultural Heritage in Moscow. Guides from Garage will lead tours through some of Moscow’s most iconic buildings from the 1920s and 1930s, including the Udarnik Cinema; the House on the Embankment; the Communal House on Ordzhonikidze Street; the boiler room of Moscow State Electric Station, designed by Ivan Zholtovsky and the Narkomfin Building.
