9 JUNE 2018

Garage Museum of Contemporary Art presents a special program of events and offers during the 2018 FIFA World Cup: from June 12 to July 25, ticket holders for the 2018 FIFA World Cup can get two Museum admission tickets for the price of one and get 15% discount on all tours by presenting their Fan ID.

The summer season projects reflect the key principles of the Museum’s work: as a place where people art and ideas make history, through celebrating the past, activating the present, and building the future for culture in Moscow.

A large-scale exhibition by German photographer Juergen Teller, Zittern auf dem Sofa (June 8–August 19), celebrates the FIFA World Cup, which takes place in Russia this summer. Juergen Teller is a keen football fan. The exhibition will feature parts of the series Siegerflieger (2014), named after the German national football team’s airplane. In Siegerflieger, Teller follows the team’s 2014 World Cup successes on TV with his friends and family and captures the euphoria of celebrating their victory in the 2014 World Cup among a crowd of fans in Berlin. An earlier series, Naked on the Soccer Field (2002), conveys the sense of disappointment after Germany’s loss to Brazil in the final of the 2002 World Cup. The core of the exhibition is a video recording of every German game played and watched by the artist. Depending on the success or failure of the German team, the result will be either happy or sad. The show will also feature famous footballers past and present. Interspersed within the football context will be works shot all over the world that make up Teller’s universe and present thinking: they are unrelated to football, but related to nature, animals, humans, and the world.

Another summer exhibition project Infinite Ear (June 8–September 2) has been developed by the curatorial group Council and the artist Tarek Atoui offer visitors the opportunity to hear, feel, comprehend, imagine, and produce sound in new ways with the help of unusual musical instruments and the performative mediation.

In 2018, Vremena Goda, the building where Garage is located, is fifty years old. This anniversary is marked by the exhibition “Did You Have a Good Time?” Vremena Goda Café since 1968 (June 8–September 2), which tells the story of this Modernist building and the popular Soviet café that it was first designed to accommodate.

In a light-hearted look at the Museum’s audience, the project “Dear Visitors…” (June 8–August 26) examines how Garage has changed and developed alongside its visitors.

The digital world of the present and future is the theme of the project IAM (June 8–August 26), which considers what the contemporary museum could be. It concludes with code-verse, a new audio-visual installation by Japanese artist and musician Ryoji Ikeda (July 19–August 26), organized together with Centre Pompidou, Paris.

The 2018 cohort of Garage Teens Team, a two-year education project for high school and first-year university students, has created the interactive installation Handmade Future (May 18–September 2), which shows how today’s young people envisage the museum of the future.

Garage is one of the main attractions in Gorky Park and offers a range of guided tours in Russian, Russian Sign Language, and English.

The Museum’s Inclusive Programs Department, the first of its kind in Russia, adapts Garage exhibition and education programs for visitors with disabilities. It runs regular tours and special events for deaf and hard of hearing, blind and partially sighted visitors, and visitors with intellectual disabilities. All Garage buildings are equipped with ramps for wheelchair users.

Garage Bookshop is open daily and offers a wideselection of books, magazines, and gifts produced in Moscow. Together with artists from across the world, Garage has produced a special series of gifts to mark its 10th anniversary. Swiss artist Urs Fischer, who is an old friend of Garage, has created his own version of the Museum’s logo, decorating it with stylized images of animals, birds, plants, and various celebratory symbols. These designs will be available on charm bracelets, T-shirts, and hoodies for adults and children. The Museum has also created its own memory game, with cards featuring works by artists with whom Garage has worked over the past ten years, including Ilya Kabakov, Louise Bourgeois, and Takashi Murakami.

Garage has joined the Museum League, alongside the Prado in Madrid and New York’s New Museum, Guggenheim Museum, and Brooklyn Museum. Artist Maurizio Cattelan has created a football scarf for Garage using the Museum’s logo. Juergen Teller has designed a very special T-shirt for Garage, with an inscription which he came up with and drew himself.

Garage Café is a great place for meeting and making friends over food and drink, either in the Museum building or on our summer terrace.
