Garage’s Publishing Program for 2018

Date

27 DEC 2017

In 2018 Garage is planning to publish over fifty books, hold the third GARAGE ART BOOK FAIR, and organize a publishing school.

Over forty books on various humanitarian topics will be published in collaboration with Ad Marginem Press and five more will be released as part of the Garage’s international program—including a historical overview of performance in Russia (Beyond Control: Russian Performance from Futurism to the Present).

Releases scheduled for 2018 include Terpsichore in Sneakers: Post-Modern Dance by Sally Banes (GARAGE DANCE series), Almaty: Soviet Modernist Architecture. 1955–1991 by Nikolay Malinin and Anna Bronovitskaya, and a reissue of Vyacheslav Koleychuk’s monograph Kineticism for the exhibition Transatlantic Alternative. Kinetic and Op Art in Eastern Europe and Latin America, 1950s–1970s. Garage will also publish two studies by the winners of the GARAGE.txt grant program: A Brief History of Street Art in Nizhny Novgorod by curator Alisa Savitskaya and artist Artyom Filatov, and Vladimir Salnikov: Possible Configurations of Art—a collection of essays edited by art historian Irina Gorlova.

In May 2018 Garage will collaborate with the Frankfurt Book Fair to organize the second school for publishers and other book market professionals, inviting marketing agents from big and independent publishing companies, translators and designers (including those collaborating with the famous Hatje Cantz) to exchange experience. This year’s special guest is Holger Volland, curator of The Arts+ section at Frankfurt Book Fair. All seminars will be free for participants with advance registration.

From May 18 to 20 Garage will hold the 3rd GARAGE ART BOOK FAIR, bringing together forty Russian and foreign publishers specializing in art, philosophy, cultural studies, design, fashion, photography, and urbanism. The program includes discussions, book launches, meetings with authors and publishers, as well as the popular Family Days organized by Garage Education for children and their parents.

Special events at the book fair include a professionals’ day featuring a talk by Gabriella Hoffmann, the Head of Marketing at one of Germany’s biggest publishers Gräfe und Unzer, a seminar The Economy of Impression with Bombora Publishing (Exmo non-fiction), and a round table discussion on book distribution in Russia.
