In May 2017, Russian artist Irina Korina will unveil a new work at the main exhibition of the 57th International Art Exhibition—La Biennale di Venezia. VIVA ARTE VIVA, curated by Christine Macel, is open to the public from May 13 to November 26, 2017. Korina’s Good Intentions installation will be in the exhibition at the Arsenale. The work has been produced with the generous support of Garage Museum of Contemporary Art.

Good Intentions is Irina Korina’s second collaboration with Garage. In late 2016, the Museum invited Korina to create a work for the Garage Atrium space as part of its Garage Atrium Commissions program. The Tail Wags the Comet—the largest installation made by the artist to date—physically and ideologically transports audiences into different surroundings and set forth an alternative route from the museum’s entrance to the first floor exhibition galleries, and vice versa, creating an immersive environment filled with scents, secrets and adventures. The Tail Wags the Comet will be on show through August 6th at Garage.

Another artist from Russia featured in the Biennale Arte 2017, titled VIVA ARTE VIVA and curated by Christine Macel, Chief Curator at the Musée national d’art moderne – Centre Pompidou in Paris, is Taus Makhacheva, who is also one of the participants of the first Garage Triennial of Russian Contemporary Art open until May 14th.

Irina Korina was born in 1977 in Moscow.  She graduated in stage design from the Russian Academy of Theater Arts (GITIS) in 2000 and also trained at the Institute of Contemporary Art, Moscow (2000), the Valand Academy of Fine Arts, Gothenburg (2000) and the Academy of Arts, Vienna (2005). Solo exhibitions include: Temporary, Art4, Moscow (2017); Destined to be Happy, GRAD, London (2016); Humiliated and Elated, XL Gallery, Moscow (2016); Refrain, Stella Art Foundation, Moscow (2014); Chapel, BAM, New York (2013); and Installations, Moscow Museum of Modern Art, Moscow (2009). Group exhibitions include: Balagan, Kuehlhaus, Berlin (2015); Post Pop: East Meets West, Saatchi Gallery, London (2014); Russian Pavilion, 53rd Venice Biennale, Venice (2009); and Angels of History, M HKA, Antwerp (2005). Korina was awarded the Soratnik Prize (Russia) in 2006, 2009, and 2012, and the Innovation Prize (Russia) in 2008 and 2014.
