Famous traveler and explorer Fedor Konyukhov supports Garage Triennial of Russian Contemporary Art

13 MARCH 2017

Famous Russian traveler, explorer, record setter, and adventurer Fedor Konyukhov supports the inaugural Garage Triennial of Russian Contemporary Art that is on show from March 10.

Especially for the exhibition, Fedor starred in a video where he shared the wonderful stories of his life, travels across Russia, and of the endless search for himself that brought him to Garage Museum of Contemporary Art. Garage Triennial which brings together 68 artists and artist groups from more than 40 cities of Russia, showcases the country from a totally different and unexpected angle. The video featuring Konyukhov is part of the Triennial advertising campaign to support the research which reveals the diversity of social tendencies that constitute the underexplored Russian art scene all over the country—from the Baltic Sea to the Pacific Ocean.

Russia as you’ve never seen it is the slogan of the campaign as well as the show itself. This is also reflected in the visuals and designs for the Triennial advertising materials. The visuals solution is an optical illusion making people intrigued and fascinated to discover the hidden image of the map of Russia. It takes some time to decipher the country no one has even seen, which is hidden behind the black and white bars, symbolizing the white noise of endless information that surrounds us.

The most significant part of the campaign was the launch of the Triennial website which is the first iteration of a multi-phase project that will evolve into a comprehensive, nationwide resource (in both Russian and English) shedding light on the practices, interests, and concerns of artists from across Russia. So far, visitors can find out more about the research, Triennial events, purchase tickets online, and read curators’ travel blogs.

Garage would like to thank Fedor Konyukhov for his support of the Triennial and for taking part in the project.
