Electronic catalogue, new books and periodicals, and holiday opening times—good news from Garage Library

Season’s greetings from Garage Library. We hope to see you during the winter holidays!

We are grateful to everyone who has visited us this year and we are looking forward to welcoming readers to our renovated space. In September, Garage Library was expanded to create extra space for our collection, public program, and to create a reading room twice as big as before. The new electronic catalogue enables visitors to search for books and periodicals by subject, key words, authors and personalities, making working in the library much easier. The library will also be open during the winter holidays: visit us on January 6 and 7 from 12:00 to 20:00.

In 2016, around 3,000 items were added to the library collection. These include new editions from Russian and international publishers, catalogues of international exhibitions, books on architecture and periodicals. Getty (Los Angeles), Centre Pompidou (Paris) and Stedelijk Museum (Amsterdam) have donated archives of their publications.

Philosopher Boris Groys and curator Viktor Misiano have also transferred their unique libraries, which include rare materials on the history of art, exhibition catalogues, a collection of Boris Groys’s own writings, and an archive of Moscow Art Magazine, headed by Viktor Misiano.

This year, the library has hosted ten reading groups focusing on a variety of subjects, as well as a new season of the seminar series Studying Art Since 1900 Together. We have launched a new project Reading Aloud, which offers visitors a chance to hear critical essays on the art of the 1990s read by professional actors.

Next year the library will announce a new program of public readings and reading groups, and yet another season of Studying Art Since 1900 Together.

Garage Library wishes you a happy new year!
