Description

The Government Building Complex: An Artistic Perspective
Denis Romodin

In 1918, after the new Soviet government moved from Petrograd to Moscow, the city was actively reconstructed, and Moscow was given the role of capital of the new state. In 1920, plans for a new city were developed, and by 1935 this had become the ‘General Plan for Reconstruction and Development of Moscow’. This tour describes what the new Soviet Moscow was intended to look like, according to the plans of the 1920s and 1930s, as well as the specific role set aside for the famous ‘House on the Embankment’. At the end of the tour, there will be an opportunity to look at the painting of the Dome of the Moscow Variety Theatre, as well as the artworks created by the artists that occupied the apartment block.

Meeting point: main entrance of the Moscow State Variety Theatre, 20/2 Bersenevskaya Embankment Str.
