DESCRIPTION

On the first Sunday of every month Garage prepares events especially developed for teenagers.

On this day the visitors will be offered a guided tour around Takashi Murakami’s exhibition Under the Radiation Falls, as well as lectures and workshops devoted to various phenomena of contemporary Japanese culture.

Guided tour around Takashi Murakami’s exhibition Under the Radiation Falls

This is a special guided tour around the exhibition Under the Radiation Falls for middle and high school pupils that will help them to better learn the artist’s practice and his works, created over the past thirty years. It will also broaden the participants’ knowledge of Japanese culture in general.

The tour will be delivered in Russian sign language with translation into Russian, making it accessible for both deaf and hearing visitors.

Lecture and workshop: Manga in Japanese Culture

The lecture will introduce the listeners to the basics of Manga that form its unique nature as a visual arts phenomenon and differentiate it from European and American comic books. Using a number of contemporary Manga works as examples, participants will learn the specific features of its style, the existing canons of representation, scenarios, and dialogues. Special attention will be paid to the depiction of emotions in Manga drawings which is radically different from that of the Western tradition.

During the workshop, the educators will demonstrate the main ways of representing emotions in Manga, share some secret details of Manga drawing techniques, and offer practical exercises for creating one’s own comic strip characters.
