Invention by modern Canadian artist Mark Lewis speaks about the universal laws of the form, equally inherent in antique statues, paintings of old masters, and the buildings of Niemeyer and Van der Rohe.
The film by modern Canadian artist and native of the Vancouver school of photographic conceptualism Mark Lewis, explores the power of the influence of visual images on our consciousness. Invention is a fascinating journey through time and space: from the ancient “Sleeping Hermaphrodite” to the projects of Mies van der Rohe. So that nothing disturbs the viewer, Lewis uses no sound in his picture: music plays only at the beginning and at the end of the film. In this way, Invention goes beyond the cinema and turns into an object of visual art.
