DESCRIPTION

New York director Woody Allen, allowed himself to move away from strictly comic roles with this romantic comedy movie, and it won him four Academy Awards including Best Picture.

The film follows the relationship between a New York couple from its beginnings until its end. New York comic Alvy Singer, a neurotic Jewish intellectual obsessed with anti-Semitic conspiracy theories has been seeing a psychoanalyst for fifteen years. Diane Keaton plays the title role of Annie Hall, a young aspiring singer. The narrative is interspersed with comic flashbacks and scenes of the main characters' self-analysis.

These new American heroes, unlike in the Golden Age films, are ordinary people with ordinary lives and problems in the New York of the 1970s. A dramatic but long expected shift from idealistic fantasy to reality became one of the most important developments in American cinema.
