DESCRIPTION

Garage Museum of Contemporary Art held a special film screening on June 21 for GARAGE cardholders: Peggy Guggenheim: Art Addict.

This intimate portrait of Peggy Guggenheim from Lisa Immordino Vreeland, director of Diana Vreeland: The Eye Has to Travel, tells the story of the heiress to the Guggenheim fortune, who became a central figure in the modern art movement.

Moving through the cultural upheaval of the 20th century, she collected not only art, but also artists. Her personal history included figures such as Samuel Beckett, Max Ernst, Jackson Pollock, Alexander Calder, and Marcel Duchamp, among many others. Despite personal tragedies, she built one of the most important collections of modern art in the world, now enshrined in her Venetian palazzo. The film tells the stories of some of the greatest artworks of the 20th century through the personal history of one of the most influential women in art.
