Master Class. Capturing the Invisible City: A Personal Geography of Moscow

DESCRIPTION

This master class focuses on the outcomes of the social research project behind the lecture course The City from the Inside.

We are intrigued by the diversity of lifestyles and opportunities the big city offers us; we need solutions for problems like urban infill and demolition of five-storey houses; we would like to know how to better manage our time and space in Moscow. For these, and many other reasons, we need knowledge. Knowing how our city is organized and whom we share it with affects the quality of our life in it. Is this knowledge accessible only to urban planners, or are there different ways of getting it? How do we explore city life without getting lost in the abundance of information? What tools and approaches are best for documenting city practices and the diversity of city life? These are some of the questions that will be discussed during the master class.
