In the eight years since it opened in 2008, Garage has become a complex structure with many departments and subdivisions. One of the core departments is Garage Research, in charge of Garage Archive Collection, Library and Media Archive.
Garage Archive Collection is at the heart of our research and exhibition programs. The archive contains a wide range of documents on Russian contemporary art, including photographs, videos and other materials—the oldest of which date back to the 1950s. The collection is continually growing to reflect the latest developments on the Russian art scene. Part of the collection is devoted to Garage’s unique Institutional Archive documenting the Museum’s own projects.
Garage Library holds a vast selection of books on the history and theory of Russian and international contemporary art, rare publications, magazines, and exhibition catalogues—the only public source of its kind in Russia.
The Museum’s Media Archive is run by a separate team within Garage Research who are responsible for collecting, archiving and studying films and videos in the Archive Collection.
