Currently there is no professional training in Russia for museum education, and yet it is one of the biggest growing areas of museum practice. Recognized as a leader in the field, Garage Museum is regularly invited to share knowledge and exchange ideas with public and private museums throughout the country.
Most recently, Garage Museum has contributed to a publication by the Perm Museum of Contemporary Art about kids, teens, and family programs, and will take part in a series of workshops on the subject for local professionals. Following this, the annual festival Kids’ Day will take place in St. Petersburg where a professional forum entitled Museum and Kids’ Culture: Active Participation, Play and Enjoyment will explore issues of participatory art for kids, teens, and families. Garage Museum will present as part of the forum its Teens Team and discuss how this unique program has become an integral part of the institution’s everyday operations.
