DESCRIPTION

Garage Museum of Contemporary Art and Ingosstrakh are pleased to provide visitors with a chance to visit the Triennial for free.

On May 14, the final day of Garage Triennial of Russian Contemporary Art, registered visitors will get an opportunity to visit its finissage for free from 17:00 till 22:00. Presenting works made by more than 60 artists from across the country, Garage Triennial of Russian Contemporary Art captures the zeitgeist of some of the most active and influential creative figures of the past five years, offering insight into the diversity of social tendencies that constitute the underexplored Russian art scene.

A curatorial team of six members of Garage Program Department traveled through the country's eight federal districts, visiting more than 40 cities and towns, crossing eleven time zones, in climates that range from the subtropical to subarctic. Working with Garage’s regional network of specialists in each local context, the Triennial curators met with over 200 artists, ranging from 19 to 69 years of age. From this research, they identified seven vectors through which the current art life of the country can be broadly understood.

Visitors will also witness the premiere of Memento Mori Tomb, a performance by Provmyza. Like their earlier projects, such as Impossible Objects (2013), which was shown at the Alexandrinsky Theater in St. Petersburg, Provmyza’s experimental performance at Garage is a complex synthesis of different genres and forms of theater.

Finissage is the first event of a special program that has been created by Garage together with Ingosstrakh and aims to introduce the most interesting and striking events in contemporary art life to a wide audience.
