Discussion. Ute Weinmann and Ekaterina Demintseva. The City through the Eyes of a Migrant

DESCRIPTION

Researchers share their experience of working with migrants in Moscow and look at the biographies and living conditions that make up this social fabric.

Despite fast-paced developments in urban life over the last two decades, the life of migrants in Moscow remains a mystery to most of the city’s population. How do migrant families and communities organise their everyday? Where and how do people of different social and geographical backgrounds interact? How often do they come across violence and discrimination? What opportunities for successful integration do they have, and how can they succeed in their careers? During their discussion involving the audience, the two researchers will offer evidence-based (and at times contradictory) answers to these questions.
