Crisis of Outrage at the Documentary Film Center
Throughout the month of August, a program of films devoted to Russian cultural and artistic life in the late 20th century/early years of the 21st century will be shown at the Documentary Film Center in Moscow. Key cultural figures who defined those years will be featured, such as Oleg Kulik, Victor Tsoy, Sergei Kuryokhin, Timur Novikov, Andrey Bartenev, Alexander Vinogradov, Vladimir Dubosarsky, Vladimir Mamyshev-Monro, Sergei Bugayev, Konstantin Zvezdachyotov, Georgy Guryanov, Dmitry Prigov, the AES+F Group and many others. The main protagonists of unofficial art in the Soviet Union such as Ilya and Emilia Kabakov, Oskar Rabin, Nikolai Blagodatov, Erik Bulatov, Gleb Bogomolov, Aleksey Khvostenko, Dmitry Shagin, Ely Beliutin, and Leonid Talochkin, who not only directly influenced cultural and artistic developments in the 1980s and 1990s, but also participated in many events of the period, are also featured. Both well-known films and those rarely seen by the Russian public will be screened, including TIMUR NOVIKOV, ZERO OBJECT (Russia 2014, directed by Alexander Shein), WE WERE HEROES THEN (Germany, 2014, directed by Lorenz Kloska and Alexander Vinogradov), YAKIMANKA-90TH (Russia, 2013, directed by Andrey Silvestrov), THE CONTEXT. BETWEEEN HERE AND THERE (Russia, 2011, directed by Alexei Khaniutin).
On Thursdays after the 19.00 screenings, Cine Fantom club discussions will be held with artists, critics and curators.
Some of the films shown will be included in Garage Museum of Contemporary Art’s Documentary Films Mediatheque, devoted to films about art.
