Garage Museum of Contemporary Art

DESCRIPTION

For visitors who want to get right into the mix with contemporary art, every season Garage guides design thematic architectural tours around the city.

In every architecture walking tour, you will get the chance not only to walk around the city streets, but also to learn about unique architectural monuments from the Soviet avant-garde and Modernism.

This year there is going to be an exciting quest around the Garage building in Gorky Park. There you will find out everything there is to know about the Museum’s new building—a Soviet Modernist structure given new life by world-famous architect Rem Koolhaas—and get in a visit to the Education Center. Architecture walking tours are also a chance to take a peek at the Garage office building, built in 1893 by architect Alexei Shchusev (who rebuilt the space himself 20 years later).

ABOUT THE TOUR GUIDES

Maria Nosova became a Garage tour guide in 2015. She graduated in Private International Law, and has been an intern at The State Pushkin Museum of Fine Arts and The State Tretyakov Gallery. She has also attended classes at the Young Art Historians’ Club.

Daria Ostratenko has been a tour guide for Garage since 2013. A graduate of the Russian State Social University with a degree in cultural studies, she now focuses on contemporary art, more specifically its origins and preconditions.

Marina Romanova has been a Garage guide since 2015. She studied journalism at the Faculty of Communications, Media and Design at the National Research University Higher School of Economics. Marina has been examining the interaction between contemporary media and contemporary art, which constantly pushes the viewer to reflect on and problematize the contemporary condition, and his or her personal situation. So why not try to gain a deeper understanding of the objects that you are studying?

Mila Yakovenko has been a Garage tour guide since 2014 and will shortly graduate from the Russian State University for the Humanities in Art History and Curating. She has co-curated two exhibitions: the YA_MY special project of the 4th Moscow International Biennale for Young Art, and Art Night at the RSUH. She is interested in the relationship between new technology and contemporary art.
